Learn how to light with off camera flash and a One light long exposure shot - The Last Frame

In this episode of the Last Frame, I have some updates on cool stuff happening with my channel behind the scenes. A speedlite shot with a slow shutter speed that has been published around the world and a tog tip to help you get started improving your skills with speedlight flash photography.

My Tog Tip this week is also continuation of the speedlight strobes videos that I am making for you right now.

Since I am going to tackle shooting with the speedlights next - I wanted to give all of you a head start. The best way to learn how to light with off camera flash is to learn how to work without a flash - yes - natural light

In other words you have to learn how to see light. I know - that sounds so artsy fartsy - but its true.
Generally when you are using a speedlite flash you will either be trying to emulate, substitute or supplement natural light with your flash.

Learn to understand and see lighting directions - you know - where is the light source in the room - how does the light look when it’s infront of someone - behind them, above them, to the side.

Before you can effectively learn how to PLACE off camera flash units - you need to build a visual database of how light looks and works. In other words - learn how to see light.
